Il fit ses \u00e9tudes \u00e0 Radovljica, puis \u00e0 Ljubljana, dans l\u2019\u00e9cole j\u00e9suite attenante \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise Saint-Jacques, o\u00f9 il fut condisciple de Jurij Vega. Il entra un temps dans un monast\u00e8re-\u00e9cole, qu\u2019il quitta par la suite. Gr\u00e2ce au soutien de la noblesse locale, il poursuivit des \u00e9tudes de commerce et de finances \u00e0 Vienne. Il fut une figure centrale du si\u00e8cle des Lumi\u00e8res slov\u00e8ne et un pionnier du th\u00e9\u00e2tre et de l\u2019historiographie. Il fut \u00e9galement musicien, traducteur, archiviste, biblioth\u00e9caire, fonctionnaire et polyglotte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En 1786, il fut nomm\u00e9 commissaire de district \u00e0 Ljubljana et prit en charge l\u2019administration scolaire de la Carniole. C\u2019est \u00e0 son initiative que fut fond\u00e9e la Biblioth\u00e8que du Lyc\u00e9e de Ljubljana, pr\u00e9curseur de l\u2019actuelle Biblioth\u00e8que nationale et universitaire de Slov\u00e9nie (NUK). Sa premi\u00e8re \u0153uvre litt\u00e9raire fut un recueil po\u00e9tique en allemand, <em>Blumen aus Krain<\/em> (<em>Fleurs de Carniole<\/em>), \u00e9crit pendant ses ann\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9tude. Il poursuivit avec une trag\u00e9die en allemand (<em>Miss Jenny Love<\/em>), compos\u00e9e \u00e0 Vienne. Sous l\u2019influence des Lumi\u00e8res slov\u00e8nes, en particulier de \u017diga Zois, il commen\u00e7a \u00e0 \u00e9crire en slov\u00e8ne. Il adapta et traduisit la com\u00e9die de l\u2019auteur allemand Josef Richter <em>Die Feldm\u00fchle<\/em> (<em>Le Moulin de campagne<\/em>), qu\u2019il intitula <em>\u017dupanova Micka<\/em> (<em>Micka, la fille du maire<\/em>), consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme la premi\u00e8re com\u00e9die en langue slov\u00e8ne. Inspir\u00e9 par <em>La folle journ\u00e9e ou le mariage de Figaro<\/em> de Beaumarchais, il adapta une autre \u0153uvre pour le public slov\u00e8ne : <em>Ce joyeux jour ou Mati\u010dek se marie<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anton Toma\u017e Linhart mourut le 14 juillet 1795 \u00e0 Ljubljana. Sa pierre tombale fut install\u00e9e au cimeti\u00e8re de Navje en 1840.
