St. James’s Church is one of the oldest and most significant churches in Ljubljana. The first church on this site, built around 1513 by Augustinian monks, was replaced when the Jesuits took over in 1597. They demolished the old Gothic structure and built a new baroque church between 1613 and 1615, making it one of the earliest baroque buildings in the city.
The interior reflects rich baroque design with side chapels, altars, and artworks created by renowned artists of the time. Over the centuries, the church has undergone several restorations, particularly after earthquakes, yet it has retained its historical character and spiritual significance.
Located at the end of Mestni trg, St. James’s Church stands out for its elegant façade, spacious interior, and valuable artworks, making it a key stop for those exploring the religious and cultural heritage of Ljubljana.
